I have to apologize once again for not writing as much as I used to and for not really visiting your blogs, but it’s still hectic here. I have a ton of studying to do until next Tuesday, so after that I promise to make it up to you! Luckily, I am feeling better now.
Today I have a very exciting post for you. I have found the perfect dupe for Benefit’s Gimme Brow, which I don’t actually consider a dupe, but even better than the expensive one 🙂
It took me around 20 minutes to figure out which eye is which on the photos 😀 I am terrible with that. But after 20 minutes, I finally got it, and now I’m going to show you how the comparison turned out.
I got the Benefit Gimme Brow in a sample size when I was in London (you can see my London beauty haul here). I got it in light/medium, and I was more excited about that than about the stuff I actually bought from Benefit 😀 I’d heard so much about that product up to that point, I simply had to try it.
However, as soon as I tried to test it out, I realized that the brush was picking too much product for my liking, and I was not impressed. I did continue to use it, until I stumbled upon the Essence make me brow. (I have no idea how my photos are so much different, I took them within 5 minutes, on the exact same spot, so sorry about that.)
Let’s start with the actual post!
As you can see, my brows are very light, and they are quite sparse. They have a pretty decent shape, but they definitely need more color to them. Also, they are quite unruly and tend to have a mind of their own. So what I need in a brow product is a bit of tint, a bit of filling and a lot of hold.
Benefit Gimme Brow claims
As I already said, I got Benefit Gimme Brow in light/medium, and the sample is 1g or 0.03 oz. The full size is 3 g or 0.1 oz, which is not a lot if you ask me, and it retails for $24, which is insane if you ask me 😀 You can buy it on FeelUnique here. It comes in two shades- light/medium and medium/deep. They claim that it’s a brow-volumizing fiber gel. It’s water resistant, long-wearing, natural-looking and buildable. ‘Brush-on fiber gel adheres to skin and hairs for fuller-looking brows.’
Does it live up to its claims?
Yes. It is quite long wearing, I don’t have to worry about my brows at all while wearing it, it’s natural looking and quite buildable, but not after it’s dry. However, it’s not really water resistant. It comes off quite easily. It has really nicely filled in my brows. However, it’s quite hard to work with. It is possibly so because of the brush size of the sample, so I have quite a hard time working with it, but the brush also picks up way too much product. The product is also quite thick, so it can look a bit messy on the brows, but if you brush through that place a couple of times, it’s fine. The part about filling in is quite nice, but I still had some sparse areas, so I would definitely fill my eyebrows in with a pencil or a brow powder, before using this product.
Essence Make Me Brow claims
I got Essence Make Me Brow in 01 blondy brows. The product contains 3.8 ml or 0.12 fl oz, which is more than the full size of Gimme Brow. It retails for $3! You can find more about the product here. It is supposed to colour, fill and shape, and it’s a coloured eyebrow gel with fibers for naturally fuller-looking brows! It comes in 2 shades- 01 blondy brows and 02 browny brows. As you can see, the claims are pretty similar and the only difference in their claims is the price! And it’s quite a huge difference…
Does it live up to its claims?
Yes! I even like it more than I do the Benefit one, since the brush is a lot easier to work with and it picks up just the perfect amount of product. The only thing that bothers me a bit, but not really, is the tint, which is not as good as with Benefit. So it’s not really great if you want to fill your brows in, but I feel like I need to fill them in before Gimme Brow, too, so it’s not a big deal really. The formula is a bit wetter, which makes it a lot easier to work with and it doesn’t cling to spots like the Benefit one does. I am seriously impressed by how similar those products are and how well the Essence one performs.
The main difference between those two products are their brushes.
As you can see, the Benefit brush is quite smaller, and sort of like a cone shape, which makes it difficult to work with. Also, the bristles on Gimme Brow are almost horizontal and quite close together, while the Essence ones are spiral and further apart. That is why the Gimme Brow picks up too much product.
Final verdict- dupe or no dupe?
I think that Benefit Gimme Brow is a great product, especially if you don’t want to spend too much time filling in your brows, but Essence Make Me Brow really surprised me, and even though I thought I was going to buy the full size of Benefit, I will just keep repurchasing the Essence Make Me Brow, because it really does an amazing job with my brows. It truly is a dupe for the Gimme brow, maybe even more than just a dupe. Even though I have to fill my brows in before applying any of these products, I don’t really care that the Essence one is not very pigmented. I am truly impressed 🙂
Have you tried these products? Do you think they are dupes? Which one do you like more?
Thank you for reading!
See you soon xx
