Essence Make Me Brow vs. Benefit Gimme Brow

Hello everyone!

Essence Make Me Brow vs. Benefit Gimme Brow

I have to apologize once again for not writing as much as I used to and for not really visiting your blogs, but it’s still hectic here. I have a ton of studying to do until next Tuesday, so after that I promise to make it up to you! Luckily, I am feeling better now.

Today I have a very exciting post for you. I have found the perfect dupe for Benefit’s Gimme Brow, which I don’t actually consider a dupe, but even better than the expensive one 🙂

It took me around 20 minutes to figure out which eye is which on the photos 😀 I am terrible with that. But after 20 minutes, I finally got it, and now I’m going to show you how the comparison turned out.

I got the Benefit Gimme Brow in a sample size when I was in London (you can see my London beauty haul here). I got it in light/medium, and I was more excited about that than about the stuff I actually bought from Benefit 😀 I’d heard so much about that product up to that point, I simply had to try it.

However, as soon as I tried to test it out, I realized that the brush was picking too much product for my liking, and I was not impressed. I did continue to use it, until I stumbled upon the Essence make me brow. (I have no idea how my photos are so much different, I took them within 5 minutes, on the exact same spot, so sorry about that.)

Let’s start with the actual post!

My Brows

Essence Make Me Brow vs. Benefit Gimme Brow

As you can see, my brows are very light, and they are quite sparse. They have a pretty decent shape, but they definitely need more color to them. Also, they are quite unruly and tend to have a mind of their own. So what I need in a brow product is a bit of tint, a bit of filling and a lot of hold.

Benefit Gimme Brow claims

As I already said, I got Benefit Gimme Brow in light/medium, and the sample is 1g or 0.03 oz. The full size is 3 g or 0.1 oz, which is not a lot if you ask me, and it retails for $24, which is insane if you ask me 😀 You can buy it on FeelUnique here. It comes in two shades- light/medium and medium/deep. They claim that it’s a brow-volumizing fiber gel. It’s water resistant, long-wearing, natural-looking and buildable. ‘Brush-on fiber gel adheres to skin and hairs for fuller-looking brows.’

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes. It is quite long wearing, I don’t have to worry about my brows at all while wearing it, it’s natural looking and quite buildable, but not after it’s dry. However, it’s not really water resistant. It comes off quite easily. It has really nicely filled in my brows. However, it’s quite hard to work with. It is possibly so because of the brush size of the sample, so I have quite a hard time working with it, but the brush also picks up way too much product. The product is also quite thick, so it can look a bit messy on the brows, but if you brush through that place a couple of times, it’s fine. The part about filling in is quite nice, but I still had some sparse areas, so I would definitely fill my eyebrows in with a pencil or a brow powder, before using this product.

Essence Make Me Brow claims

I got Essence Make Me Brow in 01 blondy brows. The product contains 3.8 ml or 0.12 fl oz, which is more than the full size of Gimme Brow. It retails for $3! You can find more about the product here. It is supposed to colour, fill and shape, and it’s a coloured eyebrow gel with fibers for naturally fuller-looking brows! It comes in 2 shades- 01 blondy brows and 02 browny brows. As you can see, the claims are pretty similar and the only difference in their claims is the price! And it’s quite a huge difference…

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes! I even like it more than I do the Benefit one, since the brush is a lot easier to work with and it picks up just the perfect amount of product. The only thing that bothers me a bit, but not really, is the tint, which is not as good as with Benefit. So it’s not really great if you want to fill your brows in, but I feel like I need to fill them in before Gimme Brow, too, so it’s not a big deal really. The formula is a bit wetter, which makes it a lot easier to work with and it doesn’t cling to spots like the Benefit one does. I am seriously impressed by how similar those products are and how well the Essence one performs.

Main difference

The main difference between those two products are their brushes.

Essence Make Me Brow vs. Benefit Gimme Brow Dupe

As you can see, the Benefit brush is quite smaller, and sort of like a cone shape, which makes it difficult to work with. Also, the bristles on Gimme Brow are almost horizontal and quite close together, while the Essence ones are spiral and further apart. That is why the Gimme Brow picks up too much product.

Final verdict- dupe or no dupe?

I think that Benefit Gimme Brow is a great product, especially if you don’t want to spend too much time filling in your brows, but Essence Make Me Brow really surprised me, and even though I thought I was going to buy the full size of Benefit, I will just keep repurchasing the Essence Make Me Brow, because it really does an amazing job with my brows. It truly is a dupe for the Gimme brow, maybe even more than just a dupe. Even though I have to fill my brows in before applying any of these products, I don’t really care that the Essence one is not very pigmented. I am truly impressed 🙂

Have you tried these products? Do you think they are dupes? Which one do you like more?

Thank you for reading!

See you soon xx

  • I think there’s colour difference between them, except that your brows look fuller after using them. If there’s a dupe, there’s no point to spend a lot on benefit one.

  • Yesss! I agree with everything here. Benefit Gimme Brow is horrible on me, the brush picks up way too much product and I have splotches of it all over my eyebrow, it was horrid. I adore Essence Make Me Brow, it’s much better than Benefits!

  • I haven’t tried any of these products, I usually use the Alverde brow gel in blonde. Works good enough for me on an everyday basis, I just do the whole brow shebang if I film/take pictures.

  • There is not really a colour difference, but the Benefit one has more fibers, so it makes the brows just a tad fuller… And it’s a bit thicker, but I actually prefer the Essence one 🙂 x

  • Yay! I am so happy to hear I’m not the only one.. I’d be so angry at myself if I bought the full size 😀 I love the Essence one much better, too 🙂 x

  • Oh I love Alverde 🙂 But I’ve never tried their brow products.. I may give it a try, and compare it to the two… My brows are really light, so I have to at least fill them in 😀 x

  • Love though how both of them looks rather natural! Xx

  • I agree 🙂 x

  • Ellen Warner

I like that they look so natural on you without overpowering your face. I think I need to pick up the essence one after reading this post!

  • I use the Alverde Brow Gel all the time the clear or the tinted version, depending on whether I filled my brows in or not.

  • Good luck with your studying, hope it’s going well! I haven’t tried very much when it comes to brow products, though I love the natural appearance of these products 🙂

  • Atm I am using Anastasiabeverlyhills dipbrow pomade. I love it. Great post and I want to try out both.

  • Raindrops of Sapphire

I haven’t tried either of these, but I am a huge fan of Benefit. I use their BrowZings set for eyebrows which I have had for 2 years already and I feel like at this rate it’s going to last me more than 10, ha ha! It’s amazing for long wearing eyebrows as it’s powder, so looks entirely natural too.

Ohh, I haven’t tried either of these before but they both sound amazing! I’ve heard such fab things about the Benefit one, but I agree with you, it is really overpriced for what it is… I am glad to hear that you’ve managed to find such a good dupe, for $3 you really can’t go wrong! Personally I’m faithful to my Archery brow kit by Soap and Glory, I’ve been using it for years and it works really well for me, but I’ll make note of that Essence one if I ever want to try something different. 🙂 Thanks for sharing hun! x x x

I haven’t tried either of these products, but I would looove to try the Essence. I’ve usually heard good things about the Benefit, but I cringe spending $24 on it, especially since I have my brow routine pretty much down (although that doesn’t stop me from adding Glossier’s Boy Brow on the list haha). The Essence looks so promising though, and you can’t beat that price point!

  • I definitely think the Essence brand works it magic here; I didn’t really expect that since Benefit seems to be hyped about alot!

    Pop over to my blog!

  • Let me know if you enjoyed it 🙂 x

  • Thank you 🙂 I agree, the Essence one is quite fool-proof too 😀 Which I desperately need when it comes to brows 😀

  • Anastasia is a bit too pricey for me at the time, but the Essence is definitely amazing 🙂 especially for the price 🙂 x

  • I’ve heard a lot about their BrowZings, but nowadays, drugstore products are such good quality that I don’t even have the need to splurge on something like that… However, when it comes to some other things, like eyeshadow, I definitely think it’s worth splurging 🙂 x

  • I am so sad we don’t have Soap&Glory… It came to the US now, and I hope it’ll be available in Croatia, too… I love their skincare, but I’ve never tried their makeup 🙂 Definitely do try the Essence one 🙂 x

  • That’s true… And I honestly think it’s better than the Benefit one… You should definitely try it 🙂 x

  • I agree… It’s kind of like a hidden gem 🙂 x

  • Wow! I have been waiting for a blog post like this. I am not an expert with brows and I have always been curious about these two products. I am currently testing out the essence eyebrow gel and I think the essence eyebrow tint will be perfect to set it in place. Thanks for this review, I can finally settle on Essence and save the extra money.
