Hello everyone!
If you’ve been reading my blog lately, you know I was on a vacation. This year, my boyfriend and I decided to go all out and really enjoy ourselves, without holding back. We wanted to spend our days at the beach, eat some good food and rest from work and prepare for everything ahead.
We went on a three week vacation, that started in Selce, which is a small town in the North of the Adriatic coast. I’ve been going there with my parents for as long as I remember.
It’s one of my favourite places in the world and I can’t get enough of it. You can see for yourself 🙂
We ate some amazing food. This was salmon pasta for me and stone oven pizza with prosciutto, cherry tomatoes, m0zzarella, black olives and rucola for my boyfriend. The restaurant was opened this year, and if you’re ever in the area, do visit. They’re not too expensive, their food is amazing and their staff is super friendly 🙂 The restaurant is called My Way.
The inevitable feet photo 🙂 We usually went to the beach around 5 p.m., since we tried to avoid the sun and getting burned, but we stayed at the beach until well after sunset, and I loved it. Evenings at the beach are something else 🙂
We saw some amazing cars, and this one has to be one of my favorites 🙂
One day we decided to really enjoy food, so we went to a fish restaurant that has the best food. Our starter were some mussels with olive oil, garlic, parsley and salt. The simplest dish ever, but also the best mussels we’ve ever had. It was probably the best olive oil I’ve tried.
Our main dish was mackerel filets wrapped in zucchini, grilled veggies, baked polenta and tomato sauce for my boyfriend and I had grouper filets fried in polenta (instead of bread crumbs) with crab sauce and chard risotto. It was definitely the best meal on our vacation. By far. It was a bit expensive, but nothing terrible. If you’re in the area and have some money to spend on food, do visit Kantunić!
Crikvenica is walking distance from Selce, so we went there quite a few times. If nothing else, we took a walk there in the evening, grabbed some beer and returned to our apartment. Their sunsets are really something, aren’t they? 🙂
Right above our beach, there was a bar we went for coffee quite a few times. This is where I wrote my 2 posts I posted while I was there (summer nail art and my 2nd quarterly update). I am very sorry to say (mostly because I was always happy with both this bar, as well as the restaurant of the hotel it’s in) the staff is rude, they are not willing to help you and you mostly don’t feel welcome there. We also ate at the buffet in their hotel, which was always packed full of food. Amazing food. This year, it was terrible, no one was looking at us, no one asked us if we wanted something to drink for way too long, their buffet was super poor and they charged me more than they said they would. I am definitely not going back there, and just to warn you, maybe you don’t want to spend too much money there, either… It’s hotel Marina, Selce.
Since Hotel Marina was such a disappointment, we decided to cook ourself a few times. This was by far the best meal we had at home, and it was fresh European seabass with a lot of veggies, some lemon, rosemary and seasalt. Amazing!
On the other hand, cocktail bar Goya has the friendliest staff. They’re always there to help, everything goes, it’s all very relaxed and comfortable. Also, they have happy hour from 4 p.m. til 8 p.m., when every cocktail (and they have a lot) is around $3.5. Yes, we’ve had 2 or 3. Or 5.
Oh, if you don’t follow me on Instagram (please do, here), you probably don’t know that some kind of bug stung me while I was on the beach, with tanning jam all over my body. And this is what my foot looked like. Pretty nasty. It didn’t hurt, though, and it’s all good now, so no need to worry 🙂
Venus has the best stone oven pizza. The choices are pretty limited, but their pizza is truly amazing, and it’s pretty cheap, so I definitely recommend it!
We had a few bad weather days, but it didn’t bother us too much. We still enjoyed our time there, took long walks and explored even more of Selce. This is a new beach they made for kids to enjoy the shallow water and tiny, almost sand-like, stones. Right above that beach is Tunar, a beach bar that is shaped like a boat, that’s a bit too expensive for my liking, but has the best pizza cut ever.
I was going to shove all of the photos in one post, but I realized it’s going to be way too long. So, I decided to split it into two posts instead, so my next one will be here soon.
